🗳️ While the government’s doors remain shut, something else just opened: a window into the soul of this fight. And it’s looking mighty red, white, and bleak for the GOP.
The numbers don’t lie. The GOP just got outflanked by the one force they can’t gerrymander away: public opinion.
According to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll, a staggering 78% of Americans support extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies. That includes 92% of Democrats… and 57% of Republicans.
So let’s call this what it is:
Republicans are threatening to keep the government closed — and hike health insurance premiums by 2x to 4x — in order to give billionaires a trillion dollars in tax breaks.
🧾 You read that right:
24 million Americans would see their premiums skyrocket.
15 million would lose their healthcare entirely.
Up to 50,000 preventable deaths per year — just to fund the elite.
And while they’re doing that? They’re lying — flat out — by claiming it’s about “illegal immigrants getting healthcare.”
Senator Sanders said it plainly: “The number of undocumented people receiving ACA or Medicaid is zero.” It’s not legal. It doesn’t happen. They’re selling you a racist bedtime story to rob you blind.
Senator Warren didn’t hold back either:
“This is the fight. Right now. Because the Republicans already rigged the system to extract that trillion-dollar tax cut for the wealthiest people in the country. And where did they steal it from? Healthcare.”
Let that sink in: They gutted your healthcare… to send Elon Musk and his billionaire cronies another fat payout.
📉 Meanwhile, the states most dependent on ACA coverage — Mississippi, Texas, West Virginia — are redder than a MAGA hat. ACA enrollment in red states has grown over 200% since 2020. This shutdown hurts their own voters most.
And yet, Trump and his allies are doubling down.
He’s on tape saying he likes the shutdown because it allows him to fire more people, cut more benefits, and do “things they can’t reverse.” He literally said the quiet part out loud: he sees shutdowns as an opportunity to consolidate power and impose pain.
🧠 What’s the endgame? It’s privatization.
Of everything.
Medicare. Medicaid. Social Security. The Post Office.
They want it all sold off and looted.
So when disaster strikes, you get a prayer… and they get a profit.
But there’s good news:
🟦 For once, the Democrats are winning the messaging war.
They’ve drawn a line in the sand and said:
✅ No ACA cuts.
✅ No exploding premiums.
✅ No billionaire tax giveaways.
This is not just about budgets. This is about survival — political, moral, and literal.

Call your senator.
Tag your rep.
Remind your neighbor: This shutdown is happening because Republicans want you broke, sick, and scared — and Democrats are finally refusing to play along.
